Kids Setting Sail
Because sailing is for everyone at every age!
For decades, the love of sailing has been handed down from Lakeside generation to generation. In an effort to continue the tradition, S.O.S. volunteers provide FREE sailing opportunities for children every Sunday, 2:30 - 4:30 pm, (weather permitting) during summer season. Those participating are given Sunfish boat rides courtesy of veteran sailors who love to spread the joy that IS Lakeside sailing.
This was the 21st year of operation for the Society of Old Salts' sponsored Kids Setting Sail Program which was designed to introduce young people to sailing by means of a short ride on a Sunfish sailboat with an experienced sailor. We took out 519 riders over the 12-week season for a total of 11,189 riders to date. Over 40 KSS volunteers, with an age range from 14 to 87, worked to make this program possible this year- thank you all! The 2025 program is scheduled to start on Sunday, June 16, weather permitting.
